SAN MARCOS, Texas. – The Little Rock soccer team had a historic win against Texas State in September, but unfortunately, they were unable to create that same result this time around. Despite their 1-0 lead after the first half, the Trojans fell short to the Bobcats with a 2-1 loss.
Little Rock started off strong with their high energy from their previous strong performance, but the Bobcats knew they had to fight hard to get through the Trojans defense.
Within the first two minutes of the game, Trojan freshman goalkeeper, Wagner blocked out two shots on goal. The rest of the first half saw some action that kept the Trojans holding off against the Bobcats. In the last two minutes of the game, junior forward, Astros Luckas had control of the ball and made a great touchback pass to Doro Greulich who launched the ball beautifully from 30 yards out right above the Texas State goalkeeper’s hand into the back of the net.
Leading the game 1-0 after the first half, Little Rock started off the second half with confidence. There were a few shots on goal by the Trojans but their pressure fell short when at minute 75 the defense scrambled inside the box against Texas State forward, Olivia Wright made a cross-shot from the left into the right low corner tying the game.
The Trojans had a fighting chance and kept the pressure upfield as much as they could with fives shots taken on goal. Despite their best efforts, the odds were against them when two minutes before the whistle blew, a foul was committed inside the box––penalty kick in favor of the Bobcats.
With Texas State leading 2-1 so late in the game, Little Rock did not have time to even the game and ending up having to concede their loss.
Their fate from this game will not stop the Trojans. They will take on the Lousiana Cajuns on the road Thursday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.
