Little Rock men’s track and field placed seventh overall, while the women’s team placed 11th at the 2019 Sun Belt Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala., on Feb. 18 and 19.
The Trojan men’s team finished with 43 total points, its best mark since 2012.
Three Little Rock athletes won individual Sun Belt championships at the event, the highest program total since 2005. Junior Emilio Medina won the men’s mile with a time of 4:17.60, senior Charles Okeze clinched the 200-meter dash in 21.41, and sophomore Keshawn Andrew took the 60-meter dash in 6.76. Okeze finished third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.79.
Okeze also participated in the men’s 4×400 relay, finishing seventh alongside Jalen Black, Noah Smith and Ch’kilas Calhoun.
Senior Shanieke Watson finished second in the women’s mile with a time of 4:54.40, and fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:12.92. The Trojan women’s 4×400 relay team, including Watson, Helensia Green, Jessica Gray and Aaliyah Lacy, came in eighth at 3:55.36.
Junior Max Holzmueller set a school record with 4,993 points and a sixth-place finish in the men’s heptathlon. Holzmueller won the 1000-meter run portion of the race with a Sun Belt-record time of 2:42.15, tied for second in the high jump and tied for third in the pole vault.
