Little Rock (LR) men’s basketball season ended yesterday in a 93-64 defeat in the first round of the Sun Belt Tournament. LR came in as the 12th seed and faced the fifth seed Appalachian State on the first day of tournament play. App St. defeated LR twice during the regular season, one loss coming on LR’s Senior night.
App St. jumped out to an early 7-0 lead. Hot shooting from the field propelled them to a 46-25 lead by halftime. The Mountaineers shot 54% from the field and 58% from three-point range, hitting seven of their first 12 attempts. The Trojans, on the other hand, shot 36% from the field and went 0-7 from deep range in the first half.
The Mountaineers continued their hot shooting into the second half and cruised to a first round victory. Senior Wadly Mompremier scored 12 points in his final game at LR. Freshman Jaizec Lottie finished with 13 points, three assists, and two steals.
App St. advances to play University of Texas-Arlington in the second round. The loss dropped LR’s final record to 7-25 on the season and 4-14 in conference play.
