Two efficient pitching performances helped Little Rock (LR) baseball sweep a doubleheader and earn a series win against Fort Wayne Sunday at Gary Hogan Field.
The Trojans (4-3) dropped the series opener 3-2 to the Mastodons on Friday evening. Inclement weather shortened the scheduled four-game series, as a Saturday doubleheader was postponed and moved to Sunday.
Cole Townsend, a senior left-handed pitcher from Abilene, Texas, threw a complete game shutout in Sunday’s first game. Townsend struck out eight Mastodons and only relinquished three hits and no walks.
Right fielder Troy Alexander recorded a pair of hits and two RBIs as LR won 2-0.
The Trojans got another complete game performance in the next game, as Chandler Fidel fanned six batters and gave up one run in LR’s 7-1 victory.
Junior centerfielder Marcus Ragan, the leadoff batter, had four hits. Alexander and left fielder Ryan Benevidez both added two hits.
LR will travel to Stillwater, Okla., for two midweek tilts with Oklahoma State before returning home this weekend for a three-game series against Northwestern State.
