Little Rock women remain unbeaten in Sun Belt while men fall short

Little Rock (LR) women’s basketball remains undefeated in Sun Belt Conference play. The Trojans survived a close victory at Coastal Carolina on Saturday afternoon.

Ronjanae DeGray’s baseline jumper with one second remaining on the clock secured the 51-49 win for the Trojans. The win takes the LR to 12-9 and an exceptional 9-0 in the Sun Belt.

The victory also allowed the Trojans to keep its 14 consecutive Sun Belt win streak, dating back to last year, alive. Keanna Keys led LR with 14 points and a team-high five rebounds.

DeGray chipped in 13 points, four rebounds, and two steals on the night, while Monique Townson added 10 points and two steals. Jas Adams led Coastal Carolina with 14 points and two steals.

Following the women’s game, men’s basketball suffered yet another road loss, falling 72-62 to Coastal Carolina.

After a cold shooting second half, the Trojans were unable to clinch its first road victory of the season on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Trojans to 5-16 overall and 2-7 in Sun Belt.

After coming out hot and shooting a remarkable 50 percent from the floor the Trojans went in at the half tied 35-35. However, the second half proved different as the Trojans fell cold, making just eight of its 29 shots in the second half, shooting 27 percent.

Ryann Pippins led the Trojans in scoring, tying his career-high with 15 points, while Andre Jones added 12 points and six rebounds. Amidou Bamba led all scorers with 18 points for Coastal Carolina.

The Trojans return to the Jack Stephens Center with a pair of games against Georgia Southern on Thursday, Feb. 1, at 7:15 p.m.
