With only three games remaining in the regular season, Little Rock (LR) women’s volleyball began their Texas road swing last night. Their first match-up, against the University of Texas-Arlington (UTA), ended in the home team’s favor. LR was coming off two consecutive home victories and looked to carry that momentum into their final two road games of the season. UTA, who the Trojans beat earlier in the season, took their revenge in a 3-1 victory.
The first set was close. LR was up late in the set 23-21. The Mavericks went on a 4-0 run to win the set 25-23. UTA dominated the second set and won it 25-15. The Lady Trojans battled back in the third set. They hit a game high .357 and added 17 kills to take the set 25-23. LR took an early lead to begin the fourth set, but UTA stormed back and won the set 25-19, and the match 3-1.
Marina Avram had a double-double with 20 kills and 10 assists. Veronica Marin had a game high four blocks. Taylor Lindberg led all players with 34 assists and Sydnee Martin added another 23 digs to her career total. Martin only needs 23 more digs to pass Ivana Vracar (2001-2004) to secure the eighth-most in LR history.
LR (9-17, 5-9 Sun Belt) will face Texas State (19-8, 10-2 Sun Belt) in their final road game Sun., Nov. 5, at 12 p.m. The Lady Trojans are looking for their first victory in Strahan Coliseum since winning the conference title their in 2014.
