Little Rock (LR) cross country runners Isaac Lalang and Shanieke Watson had top-six finishes in their respective events at the Sun Belt Cross Country Championships in Boone, N.C., on Saturday afternoon.
Lalang finished fourth in the men’s 8-kilometer race, posting a time of 25 minutes,17 seconds, and one-tenth of a second. Lalang’s average time per kilometer was 3:09.6.
Nadeel Wildschutt of Coastal Carolina won the event with a time of 24:44.3.
Three other Trojan runners finished in the top 50, including sophomore Emilio Medina in 41st (27:07.9; 3:23.5 average), senior Imad Amenzou in 48th (27:20.4; 3:25.0) and junior Rogelio Araiza in 50th (27:41.5; 3:27.7).
As a team, LR finished the event in ninth place.
LR’s Watson earned a sixth-place finish in the women’s 5-kilometer race, with a time of 17:57.6 and average of 3:35.5 per kilometer.
South Alabama’s Laura Labuschaigne came in first place, with a time of 17:35.1.
LR freshman Vianney Sanchez (19:03.5; 3:48.7) and sophomore Hunter Paul (19:05.8; 6:08.4) came in 43rd and 44th place, respectively.
The Trojans finished tenth overall in the race.
The Trojans’ two cross country squads will compete in the NCAA South Central Regional in College Station, Texas, on Friday, Nov. 10.
The NCAA Cross Country Championship is a week later, on Nov. 17 in Louisville, Ky.
