This week in SGA: Sept. 25

This week, the Student Government Association elected junior Larry Dicus to the office of president pro-tempore. Dicus is a senator from the College of Engineering and Information Technology.

The job of president pro-tempore is to assist the president of the senate in his or her duties when requested, and to serve as president of the senate in the president’s absence. The position also manages the official records of senate meetings regarding attendance, minutes, official legislation, executive and committee reports, meeting agendas, and all other senate correspondence.

In the event of an amendment to UA Little Rock legislation, the president pro-tempore is responsible for modifying the election code, senate by-laws, and the SGA constitution and code of ethics so they comply with the amendment.

During the meeting, the senate voted to change this year’s senator-at-large election to the same day as Homecoming elections. Homecoming is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 11, so both elections will likely take place on Nov. 10.

The SGA also discussed its plans for Discover 2017, which is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 13, and Friday, Nov. 3. On both days, there will be an activity tent where potential students can learn about the SGA and its goals for this year.
